UN GDP and Total Medal Count

The first scatter plot aims to show the correlation between the Countries’ Total GDP and their medal count. The X-axis is the GDP, and the Y-axis and their medal count.

The Second scatter plot shows the same information, but divides the data points into continents using color.

Insights:

• In general, there is a strong correlation between GDP and total medal counts, with the R2 of 0.726
• This correlation is the strongest in North America, with the R2 of 0.984
• This correlation is the weakest in Europe, with the R2 of 0.698




GDP Per Capita and Medals Per Capita

This scatter plot measure the correlation between GDP per capita and Medal count Per Capita

Insights:

• The correlation is not as strong as when you directly compare GDP and total medals count. This could be due to the fact that developing countries all have high populations yet their GDP and GDP per capita varies greatly, this variation causes the correlation to be weaker.
